Daniel 7:13–14 (KJV)

Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.

Transcript

A Bible convention broken up by a mob of two hundred. A Christian kept on death row. A church turned into a barracks. And in Britain, a national digital I.D. scheme is scrapped while the systems behind it carry on being built. This is the week's news that matters to followers of Christ, reported from the sources, with a word from Scripture alongside it.

Welcome to Christian News, from The Son Of Man, Daniel Seven. Before the headlines, let us anchor ourselves in the Word. Daniel chapter seven, verse thirteen. I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom. Whatever the news brings this week, the kingdom belongs to Him.

Persecution watch

Mob of about 200 attacks Santhali Bible convention (source: International Christian Concern, 20 Oct 2026)

Section one. Persecution watch. We begin in India. International Christian Concern reports that on the ninth of October, an armed mob of about two hundred people attacked the annual Santhali Bible convention at a retreat centre in Nadia district, West Bengal. The gathering normally draws more than two thousand indigenous Santhali Christians. The attackers came with bamboo sticks and bricks, threw stones, and damaged church property. Several believers were reportedly hurt, and the four day convention ended early. The Catholic Bishops' Conference of India has appealed to the federal Home Minister for an investigation. A word of commentary. The early church met under exactly this kind of pressure. Paul wrote to Timothy: all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

Red Cross volunteer shot dead; 12 killed in Benue villages (source: Morning Star News · TruthNigeria, 13–14 Oct 2026)

Next, Nigeria. Morning Star News reports that Lydia Nwankwo, a thirty year old Christian volunteer with the Nigerian Red Cross, was shot dead on the sixth of October when gunmen opened fire on her team's vehicle in Sokoto state. Her sister said, she died because she chose to go where others refused to go. In Benue state, a weekly report from TruthNigeria says attackers with machetes killed at least twelve people in two villages, including a four year old boy. Residents blamed Fulani militia, and some death tolls were still being confirmed. According to Open Doors, more Christians are killed in Nigeria than in any other country. A word of commentary. Scripture tells us not to look away. Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them.

Supreme Court keeps Christian on death row for blasphemy (source: International Christian Concern, 16 Oct 2026)

In Pakistan, International Christian Concern reports that on the seventh of October the Supreme Court acquitted a Christian man, Amoon Ayub, after years in prison, but upheld the death sentence of his brother, Qaisar Ayub. Both were sentenced in twenty eighteen under the blasphemy law, over posts on a website. Qaisar says he stopped publishing in two thousand and nine, and that someone else kept using his name. His legal team called the ruling deeply distressing. He has a wife and three children. A word of commentary. This is a prayer the Psalmist gives us for men like Qaisar. Let the sighing of the prisoner come before thee. Preserve thou those that are appointed to die.

Churches burned and occupied as US reopens talks with junta (source: International Christian Concern, 19 Oct 2026)

And in Myanmar, International Christian Concern reports that on the twelfth of October troops burned a Kachin Baptist church in Bhamo, and that a militia allied with the military has been using another Baptist church as a training camp. In September, a Baptist pastor of twenty two years, Reverend Dal Thawn Tuang, was shot dead in Chin state. All this comes as the United States has held two rounds of talks with the military government in about a month. A word of commentary. The Psalmist knew this grief. They have cast fire into thy sanctuary. Yet the church is not a building, and it is not going away.

Beast system watch

Digital ID scrapped, but One Login, the wallet and 80+ credentials go on (source: The Register, 20 Oct 2026)

Section two. Beast system watch. Here at home, The Register reports that officials told Parliament's Public Accounts Committee on the nineteenth of October that, although the national digital I.D. scheme has been scrapped, work continues on GOV dot UK One Login, the government wallet, and more than eighty planned digital credentials. Businesses are already testing against the wallet, and digital driving licences are being targeted for twenty twenty seven. One M.P., Rupert Lowe, warned Britain could get digital I.D. by the back door rather than the front door. Officials insisted consent is the model, but admitted the strategy needs to be fully finished. A word of commentary. This is not the mark of the beast. But Revelation thirteen describes a world where no man might buy or sell without a mark, and that requires infrastructure. Jesus said, take heed that no man deceive you.

Digital euro: fifth round of EU talks; Lagarde wants law by end-2026 (source: Agence Europe · ECB statement via The Crypto Times, 17–20 Oct 2026)

In Europe, Agence Europe reports that on the twentieth of October, negotiators from the European Parliament and the Council held a fifth round of talks on the digital euro, covering offline payment limits and anti money laundering rules for small transactions. Technical talks on data protection continue from the twenty first of October. On the seventeenth of October, the European Central Bank's president, Christine Lagarde, told the I.M.F. that adopting the digital euro law by the end of this year is key, with a twelve month pilot planned for late twenty twenty seven. A word of commentary. A central bank digital currency is not the mark. But money that can be monitored and programmed puts a great deal of power in very few hands. Revelation warns of a day when no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark.

Israel and the Temple Mount

“The Status Quo died years ago”: open Jewish prayer on the Temple Mount (source: Christian Science Monitor, 14 Oct 2026)

Section three. Israel and the Temple Mount. The Christian Science Monitor reports that long standing restrictions on Jewish prayer at the Temple Mount have, in its words, evaporated. Groups now pray aloud and bow down on the site under police guard. One activist group says about sixty nine thousand Jewish worshippers went up last year, nearly five times the number a decade earlier. Its leader told the paper, our main aim is the Temple. Jordan's King Abdullah says his country will uphold its custodianship of the holy sites. A word of commentary. Scripture speaks of a temple in the last days, in Daniel nine and Second Thessalonians two. We watch this closely, but we do not cheer for conflict. We obey the command. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

IDF on highest alert before the 27 October vote, as Gaza and Iran threats persist (source: The Times of Israel · AFP, 19–20 Oct 2026)

Also in Israel this week. The Times of Israel reports that on the nineteenth of October, the I.D.F. Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, put the military on its highest state of alert ahead of the general election on the twenty seventh of October, and froze soldiers' leave. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Israel's enemies: do not test us. In Gaza, the I.D.F. and the Shin Bet say an airstrike in Jabalia on the nineteenth killed the last member of the Hamas cell that carried Shani Louk's body into Gaza on the seventh of October, twenty twenty three. They say he had been rebuilding Hamas's capabilities, in systematic violation of the ceasefire. Gaza's civil defence, which operates under Hamas, and local hospitals told A.F.P. that Israeli fire killed seven people on the twentieth, among them a senior Hamas security official and his wife. Israel says private sector goods will gradually return to Gaza, after Hamas reportedly dropped demands for payments from merchants. And Iran's Revolutionary Guards claim their mines halted two oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. A word of commentary. Israel goes to the polls under threat on several fronts. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

The BBC and Israel: what its own reviews and the regulator found (source: BBC · Ofcom · Asserson report · CAMERA UK, Oct 2023 – Mar 2026)

Now, how this conflict is reported here in Britain, and what is on the record about the BBC. In October twenty twenty three, the BBC said it had been wrong for its correspondent to speculate that the blast at Gaza's al-Ahli hospital was an Israeli airstrike. In twenty twenty four, a report led by the lawyer Trevor Asserson alleged more than fifteen hundred breaches of BBC guidelines in its war coverage. The BBC rejected the report's methods. In July twenty twenty five, the BBC's own review found that its documentary, Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone, breached its accuracy guidelines, by not telling viewers that the child narrator's father was a deputy minister in the Hamas-run government. In October twenty twenty five, Ofcom ruled the programme materially misleading, a serious breach of the Broadcasting Code. In November, a leaked memo by former BBC adviser Michael Prescott raised what it called systemic problems in BBC Arabic's coverage of the war. The BBC chairman accepted that some reporting had fallen short, including on casualty figures in Gaza. The director general and the head of news resigned, chiefly over a separate Panorama edit. And in March this year, after a complaint from the media watchdog CAMERA UK, the BBC amended a Gaza report to make clear that lorries entering before the war carried commercial goods as well as aid. The barrister Natasha Hausdorff, of UK Lawyers for Israel, has long challenged this coverage. On X, she wrote: the appalling failures of the BBC and its false reporting on Israel has been in the headlines recently. And in May she wrote: the claim initiated by Hamas and disgracefully maintained by the BBC, that seventy percent of those killed were women and children, is false. A word of commentary. The ninth commandment says, thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. And the Proverbs teach us to hear both sides. He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him. So test what you hear, from every broadcaster, this channel included.

Prayer

Before we close, will you pray with me. Pray for the Santhali believers in West Bengal. For grieving families in Nigeria. For Qaisar Ayub on death row, and for his wife and children. For the believers detained in Nepal. For the churches of Kachin and Chin in Myanmar. And for Israel, for all who live in the land, and for the peace of Jerusalem. Lord, strengthen Your people, comfort the grieving, and let the gospel go forward even through suffering. In Jesus' name, amen.

Closing

Jesus said, in the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
